ABOUT
KEJARA'S BRIDGE, INC.
Opened in 1997 by Christen and Sarah Landry, Kejara’s Bridge
is a unique restaurant offering delicious, healthy breakfasts
and lunches. Or maybe it is a coffeehouse. Deli. Art gallery.
Live music venue. Meeting place. Library branch. Community center.
Kejara’s is all of these things, and has always offered
a menu based on fresh, organic ingredients.
HOURS
Kejara’s Bridge is open from 7a.m. to 3 p.m. daily (closed
Mondays and Tuesdays in the winter), and features live music
once
or twice a month on a Saturday evening.
MENU
Our menu focuses on fresh and organic ingredients, with delicious
yet unusual flavors in each item. For breakfast, twelve offerings
range from the crowd-pleasing Sassy Scram to the famous Bridge
Bagel to the most amazing French Toast. The broad lunch menu
ranges
from Rah’s Tuna to Avocado & Turkey Salad, to THE best
Veggie Burger in the whole world (our own recipe). Organic green
salads and Kejara’s own homemade baked goods round out the
current food items. Kejara’s also offers delicious coffee
and cappuccino drinks, plus more than ten teas to please every
palate. Wonderful
treats from Kejara’s for any time of day: Fresh squeezed
orange juice and lemonade, ginger peach ice tea, and the most
incredible fruit smoothies. Oh, and don’t forget the incredible
brownies!
ART
The walls at Kejara’s Bridge are almost always covered with
exceptional artwork - you’ll only find them bare for a day
or two between shows. Typically featuring a different artist each
month, Kejara’s routinely hosts openings for the new show.
We’re delighted to be consistently scheduled a year in advance,
and periodically we are pleased to bring in artists from other
areas of the country. But we are especially proud to support local
artists, and have featured Bruce Unwin, Dan Lisuk, Dylan McConnell,
Carl Ganter, Char Bickell, and Christen and Sarah Landry in the
gallery. The brilliant, ever-changing art helps to make Kejara’s
atmosphere warm and inviting even in the midst of winter.
MUSIC
Kejara’s Bridge brings in live music periodically. Our coffeehouse
environment is attractive to entertainers who like to create a
close relationship with the audience. Kejara’s has presented
numerous musicians, including Joel Mabus, Annie Gallup, Peita
Brown, Brookes Williams, John Rutherford, Josh White Jr., Taieda,
Garnet Rogers, Ray Kamalay, and Bill Staines. Because of the intimate
setting of the room, nearly every show sells out. Call us to find
out what’s on the schedule.
Kejara’s also has live music every Sunday from 10-2, featuring
a rotating roster of local musicians. The live music in our restaurant
creates an extraordinary ambience for eating wonderful food and
sharing a great space.
GARDEN
Three years ago, Tracy Brookfield, an English gardener who happened
to live across the street from Kejara’s Bridge, approached
Sarah and Christen about the open space next to the restaurant.
He had been looking at the space for a year and had come up with
some great ideas for it. Today, in the green seasons, the garden’s
beautiful flowers, trees and art create a peaceful and inviting
outside seating area.
PATIO
In addition to the garden, Kejara’s has a brick patio in
the ‘front yard’ for see-and-be-seen outdoor seating.
The patio is surrounded with beautiful trees and covered by a
trellis that sports a screen to help protect customers from the
sun that seems always to shine on Kejara’s Bridge.
THE REDHEADS
Over time, many customers have remarked that they would love
to get their favorite Kejara’s foods from nearby grocery stores
– particularly those customers who drive 30 or 40 or 50
miles exclusively to eat here. So Kejara’s Bridge offers
some of our toppings & batters ‘in bulk’ from
the restaurant. With just this much encouragement, in late 2003,
Kejara’s founders branched out from the restaurant and started
“The Redheads” product line, packaging up a few of
our favorite recipes. We’ve been elated with the local stores’
reception of our products. And we’ve been humbled by the
amazing support of our customers and community.
We have not forgotten our out-of-town customers who have told
us they’d love to be able to buy The Redheads products
in their hometowns. Keep an eye open at your local specialty,
gourmet,
and upscale grocery stores for our products. Our goal is for
our made-from-scratch foods to be available all over the state
of
Michigan this year.
Next year…
ABOUT US
Kejara’s Bridge is owned and operated by Christen and Sarah
Landry. We grew up in this area, and like many of our friends,
after high school we moved away for college. Christen dualed
in
business administration and fine arts, and Sarah took her degree
in communications. Christen moved to Colorado after graduating,
where she painted, skied, hiked and waited tables. Meanwhile,
Sarah spent time in Ireland, played in bands, worked in local
television, and waited tables. Eventually, the lure of Leelanau
County recaptured both of us. Christen had long dreamed of opening
an art gallery or coffee shop, and Sarah was ready to jump into
building a place that offered vegan foods that both preferred.
Our original concept, a natural foods deli/coffeehouse/art gallery,
sounded complicated but was the best way we could describe our
goal. We both loved the pubs of Ireland and wanted to recreate
some of that atmosphere, while adding our own style to the mix.
As our styles change, we make changes to Kejara’s Bridge,
so it stays fresh to us – and if you haven’t been
in for awhile, better check out what’s new since the last
time you came in.
We like to eat flavorful food, and we’ve both worked in
restaurants since we were very young. Since neither of us had
professional culinary training, we’ve each spent many long
hours learning what flavors work together, and how to prepare
foods so that all the flavors come through. We’ve had several
years to refine our food knowledge – and we have to say
“Thank you” to our patient customers for bearing with
our mistakes. Today, we’re delighted to have Customers who
rave about Kejara’s many wonderful, creative, and healthy,
tasty menu items. Bursting with complex flavors and packed with
goodness, we are proud to offer foods that you can feel good
about
eating!
Old
Irish Myth about the name- Kejara’s Bridge
Kejara and his daughter lived in Ireland years ago. They decided
to bless their troubled country out under the stars on the sea
one evening. As they got out unto the sea, a storm blew in and
capsized the boat. The bow and the stern of boat formed a bridge
from the mainland of Ireland, to an island off of Ireland. Kejara
and his daughter were washed upon the shore of the island and
declared a different way of living. We have adopted the idea by
composting, recycling, and being invested in our community and
its needs. We support the arts and music.
